1971 M40 Windsor End Footbridge. This award-winning structure is in prestressed, precast concrete with a soffit in double curvature. The columns are in heavy steel plate with internal stiffeners as they resist bending from the cantilevered deck. They are anchored to the deck with post tensioned McCall bars. The deck ends are pinned to the abutments with high tension steel bars. The period of vibration is increased and dampened by the specially designed handrails. Construction required special attention and measures.
